Rock-the-Party Desserts ! (hint : Oreo)

Going to a potluck party?

No idea what to bring?

Don't really know how to cook?

Well, volunteer to bring desserts!

Coz I am going to share 2 easy wincy recipes with you right now !
(No, we are not going to make jelly, it is easy but oh-so-boring)

Oreo will be our main ingredient, with a few other simple ingredients...

We can make...

and

Ready to impress people with your creativity?
(Learning it from the internet, it is still creativity right?)

Okayy, let's go...

First let's make the Owl Cupcakes.

No worries if you don't have an oven and have no idea where is the nearest bakery supply around you. You only need these ingredients that can be easily found at any grocery store :

You can bake your own cupcakes and make your own chocolate icing if you like.

Steps:
1. Cut off the excess muffin top and make it flat as we are going to decorate it.
2. Spread Nutella/ Chocolate icing all over the top so that our Oreo / M&M can stick on it.
3. Split the Oreo cookies and put 2 cookies with white fillings as eyes,
4. Add brown M&M's as eyeballs, put 1 M&M (any color) as nose
4. Take a piece of Oreo cookie without its filling, chop it into half as eye brows...

Confused by my words? A picture speaks a thousand words :

Just decorate accordingly. It is really fun and easy ! You just can't go wrong!

Continue until you are tired or until you run out of cupcakes.

Done !! Now let's move on to the next dessert...

Let's make Oreo Party Poppers

It can be of different variations, depending on how you decorate it.

This time, I am making coconut snowball version. Ingredients as follows:

You can use chocolate chips or baking chocolates.

Steps:
1. Separate Oreo cookies and its fillings.
2. Crush the cookies with a blender or chopper or throw them on the floor and step on them.

3. Add in its white fillings and cream cheese then blend again (this time I don't think you can use your foot)

p/s: One whole stick of Oreo needs around 130 gram cream cheese. So adjust accordingly, depending on how much you are planning to make.

4. After blending, they should look evenly black, oily and a little disgusting, but its okay, you are on the right track. Take a small bit and roll it into a small ball (enough to fit your mini paper cup).
Repeat until finish.

p/s: If they look a bit like above, you are getting it !
If you can't make them very round/ smooth/ same size, no worries. Practice makes perfect.
If you can make them very round and really perfect, stop criticizing the ones i have made! We are going to coat them with chocolate anyway, so there's no need to be perfect !

5. Moving on... Melt your chocolate chips / if you are using baking chocolates, chop them to chucks for easier melting.

p/s: Note that you cant melt chocolate directly over fire, you have to double boil them or do it over boiling water

6. Coat each ball with melted chocolate, place them in your paper cup and decorate!
This time, I sprinkled coconut flakes and named them snowballs.

I previously added almond bits and named them almond party poppers.

Add heart deco and they become great Valentine's day idea, no?

So now... chill them in the fridge and get ready to rock the party !

Hit the party with such fancy treats, I bet you will be showered with compliments.
So pretty!  So creative (again, you don't have to tell them you learned it from the internet right? *wink*)

Just like if I told you I got the Owl cupcake idea from the cupcake blog, you will feel less impressed by my creativity right?

Anyway, have fun doing them ! They can be done in less than an hour when you are well prepared or have someone helping you. This can even be done with kids!

If you do make them, do leave a link below! I would love to seeee!

Pork Balls

Proceed at own risk.

Turn your head away and close this page now if you love Allah.

So the rest of you who are here, you understand that there will be pig pork involved right?

Good.

This is actually a family recipe, whenever there's a family gathering, my eldest aunt would make these and they will be gone in no time.

It is supposed to be a secret recipe so... I tell you, you don't tell anyone ok?

*pinky promise*

Okay, here you go...

Ingredients:

(A)
Pork
Shallot
Garlic
Carrot
Jicama* (I know right, wtf?)

*It's "sengkuang" in Malay / "sa kok" in Chinese (I had to google to find out its awkward English name)

(B)
Egg

(C)
Pepper
Salt
Corn flour

Method:

Chop/Dice (A) with your sharpest knife or bare hands if you know Karate.
Add in (B) and (C) and mix with a fork.
If you want to use your hands then you must go wash'em first okay? please? Thank you.
When you are done mixing them evenly, take a bit and squeeze into a small ball.
Repeat and deep fry all.

I ain't joking, my aunt has been using this recipe to make pork balls for ages.
I guess the secret ingredient is the Jicama (damn, it sounds so much like a bad word).
It gives the pork balls a crunchy + chewy texture. Hard to explain, it's just plain yummy.

I know that there is no specific measurement given, but my aunt don't usually measure the ingredients when she cooks, neither do I.
It really depends on how many balls you want to make, if your Jicama is big then use half of it only.
(no idea why but the previous sentence sounded pretty awkward).

In a nutshell, use the ingredients according to your gut feelings, practice makes perfect too!

Anyways, good luck in your cooking adventure, just dice, mix and fry them with lotsa love will do, that's what they always say in the movies. Food that is cooked with love always turn out yummy right?

NYR Vintage Charm Bracelet

I have an issue.
I have this obsession with accessories and jewelries since young.
Actually, I am obsessed with all pretty things.

On second thought, maybe all girls are the same.
So... I am probably not a weirdo.

Few days ago, I passed by this little stall in Midvalley that sells Vintage accessories.
Not sure why (maybe because I just got my pay) ...
My pair of legs just walked towards the stall even though I know I don't need more jewelries.

I have always loved vintage and bronze jewelries !
Although I have some already but... this... is different :

We can pick and customize our own !
There are more than 100 charms to choose from :

There are various sizes of Eiffel towers for Paris Lovers (*hi-5* if you love Paris too)

An Owl collection for all you weirdos who love owls

Key collection for key lovers / those turning 21 but can't afford gold key

and many other random & quirky charms...

These are some of my favorites :

Apart from charm bracelets:

There are...

Vintage Notebooks

Vintage Brooches

Vintage Rings

If you don't feel like diy, there are many ready made ones available

Which are really pretty and unique too!
I can never come up with combination like that...

So.. what's with today's post title - NYR?
Well, it is just me making up an excuse for myself to buy something =D

I customized a "New Year Resolution bracelet" !!
Yes, I actually made up an excuse to pick each charm !

What an awesome but meaningful excuse to buy a charm bracelet !
Now I will always be reminded of the NYR that I set.

Anyways, wish us all have an awesome 2012 ! I am all geared up to make it the best year of my life !

Oh yea, for those influenced by me to spend,
you can visit the kiosk in Midvalley or shop online :
I think you can order through their fb page as well.

The owner is really nice. After all, he allowed me to take random photos of the charms even before he knows if I would buy any (or maybe it is really obvious that I am a shopaholic)

love,
Catherine
